The Oregon GEAR UP project is supported in part by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education and the contributions of many community partners. GEAR UP works with 16 high schools and 23 middle schools that serve the state's lowest-income communities. The GEAR UP schools include large and small schools in both urban and rural communities. These schools share several common characteristics:
-
High numbers of low-income students
-
Lower academic achievement
-
Low college-going rates
GEAR UP works to ensure that students in these schools are prepared for, pursue, and succeed in postsecondary education.
