Community Volunteer Opportunities
Community volunteers are crucial to student success and college readiness. Consider volunteering in your local schools, or with one of the organizations below, to make a difference in the lives of Oregon's youth.
- Access to Student assistance Programs In Reach of Everyone (ASPIRE) is Oregon's official high school mentoring program, helping students access education and training beyond high school. Students receive information about college options, admission, and financial aid from trained and supportive ASPIRE volunteer mentors who work one-on-one with them throughout the year. ASPIRE currently serves 115 high schools across Oregon. http://www.aspireoregon.org/
- Oregon Mentors can connect you with youth mentoring opportunities around the state. Whether you're a volunteer, a mentoring program, an advocate for a young person or a funder wanting to learn more about mentoring, you'll find great information at this website. http://www.ormentors.org/
- Start Making a Reader Today (SMART) helps kids become confident readers by providing individual volunteer attention and new, take-home books. Since 1992, SMART has served 130,000 children, given away 1.8 million books, and enlisted the help of 90,000 volunteers contributing over 2.8 million hours. http://www.getsmartoregon.org/
