1. Campus Preview Day at Western Oregon University - DATE: 04/16/10
Students and family members are invited to attend WOU Preview Day to learn about Western's nationally recognized academic programs, meet members of the campus community and discover what opportunities are available on the beautiful WOU campus.
- Attendance is free and family members are welcome to attend
- Lunch will be served by WOU's nationally recognized dining services
- Students will tour campus with a WOU student
- Students can apply for admission at check-in and receive notification of their status in the afternoon

4. Scholarship Writing Workshop at the University of Portland - DUE: 04/12/10 DATE: 04/17/10High school juniors and seniors are invitied to attend a low-cost Path to Scholarships® workshop at the University of Portland. Sponsored by Dr. Ethel Simon-McWilliams, Juan Young Trust, and the Pacific Power Foundation, the workshop will teach students to write award-winning essays and learn how to find scholarships to fund their postsecondary pursuits.
Space is available for 50 high school students. The cost is $10 per student. To reserve a space, please send your contact information (name, phone, email, school, grade level) and payment by Monday, April 12, 2010 to:

5. Umpqua Community College Ford JumpStart Scholarship Program - DUE: 04/22/10Umpqua Community College (UCC) is pleased to announce the release of the 2010-11 UCC Ford JumpStart Scholarship Program application. The JumpStart Scholarship Program seeks students with average GPAs who may need encouragement and financial assistance to realize their full potential. Award amount is $3,000 for the first year, and the scholarship is renewable for a second year. To be eligible, a student must have limited financial resources for paying for postsecondary education, be an Oregon resident residing in Douglas County, and be between the ages of 17-20 as of April 22, 2010. 6. DoSomething.org Six Flags Friends Scholarships - DUE: 04/30/10DoSomething.org, one of the nation’s largest organizations devoted to the funding of young social entrepreneurs, has teamed up with Six Flags Friends to award college scholarships to young leaders who are taking action to make their community a better place. Scholarships will be awarded based on past, current and planned action in the community as well as the applicant’s passion, commitment and proven leadership skills. 7. NCSS Christa McAuliffe Reach for the Stars Award - Social Studies - DUE: 05/01/10The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) is pleased to announce the 2010 Christa McAuliffe Reach for the Stars Award, established in 1986 to help classroom teachers “reach for the stars” and achieve a dream that under ordinary circumstances would not be fulfilled. The purpose of the $2,500 grant is to help a social studies educator make his or her dream of innovative social studies a reality. Grants will be given to assist classroom teachers in: 1) developing and implementing imaginative, innovative, and illustrative social studies teaching strategies; and 2) supporting student implementation of innovative social studies, citizenship projects, field experiences, and community connections.
Recipients of the award also present a session at the NCSS Annual Conference and receive a commerative award piece during the Awards Reception at the Annual Conference. The awards is sponsored by National Council for the Social Studies and Fund for the Advancement of Social Studies Education.
