Secretary Duncan Calls for Overhaul and Reauthorization of NCLB

In a recent meeting at the Department of Education, Secretary Duncan spoke about the urgency for an overhaul of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Since its inception in 2001, the law has drawn criticism from education stakeholders across the country. In preparation for the reauthorization of NCLB, the Secretary has been gathering feedback from parents, students, and educators on a national listening tour. Secretary Duncan believes that a new version of the law must include an accountability system based on student growth, programs to improve the performance of existing teachers, and the creation of tests that accurately measure student learning.
